چکیده
While the annual European demand for polyolefins is 25 million tonnes, only 3 tonnes of recycled find their place in market, despite collecting 15 post-consumer every year. Brand owners care products are showing interest using plastics packaging. However, there a general concern these materials, as polymers can contain unwanted substances that may expose consumer to health risks or make packaging unattractive. Accordingly, presence contaminants narrows market opportunity applications with low-quality requirements and which product not direct contact consumer. Though mechanical recycling most widespread solution presents limitations terms decontamination, superficial removed. Thereby, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) migrated polymer matrix remain inside. Consequently, need purify increase share. This study focuses on removing VOCs from HDPE through two innovative methods applied first time this field, steam stripping polyethylene glycol (PEG) extraction. The methodology implemented analyze was HS-SPME-GC/MS. Both showed decrease above 70% content compared extrusion-degassing. Moreover, were hot air stripping, new technology developed at an industrial scale removal VOCs. As result, improved efficiency reducing overall stripping. PEG extraction method lowered polar further than Additionally, none technologies modified melting flow index.

Volatile Organic Compounds Removal Methods: A Review
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are among the most toxic chemicals which are detrimental to humans and environment. There is a significant need of fully satisfactory method for removal of VOCs. There are several methods including physical, chemical and biological treatments available to remove VOCs by either recovery or destruction. The aim of the present study is to summarize the available m...
متن کاملCan ornamental potted plants remove volatile organic compounds from indoor air? A review.
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are found in indoor air, and many of these can affect human health (e.g. formaldehyde and benzene are carcinogenic). Plants affect the levels of VOCs in indoor environments, thus they represent a potential green solution for improving indoor air quality that at the same time can improve human health. This article reviews scientific studies of plants' ability to...
متن کاملModeling Emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds from New Carpets
A simple model is proposed to account for observed emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from new carpets. The model assumes that the VOCs originate predominantly in a uniform slab of polymer backing material. Parameters for the model (the initial concentration of a VOC in the polymer, a diffusion coefficient and an equilibrium polymer/air partition coefficient) are obtained from exper...
متن کاملVolatile organic compounds from leaves litter.
Qualitative composition of volatile emissions of litter of five species of deciduous trees was investigated by GC-MS. The list of identified substances contains more than 70 organic compounds of various classes. It was established that the composition of components emitted by the litter into the gas phase greatly differs from that of essential oils extracted by hydrodistillation from turned lea...
متن کاملVolatile Organic Compounds Contribute to Airway Hyperresponsiveness
BACKGROUND Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in concentrations found in both the work and home environments may influence lung function. We investigated the prevalence of airway responsiveness in workers exposed to VOCs. METHODS We used allergic skin tests, nonspecific airway hyperresponsiveness testing and questionnaires to study twenty exposed workers and twenty-seven control subjects. Atop...
